UK needs its own internet (and why leaving the EU is arrogant madness)

Most British citizens use the internet every day. We use it all the time for buying and selling stuff, communicating with people, managing our money, for most of our entertainment, to study and to be alerted about things that matter to us. But we don't control the internet. It's defined and run by unelected faceless bureaucrats outside the UK. We've lost our sovereignty over one of the most important parts of our lives today. We need to regain that sovereignty so we can take control of our future. We need to leave the internet and build a better one that the British people can control! Alexander Graham Bell was British for heaven's sake. So is Sir Tim Berners-Lee. But it's foreigners who control the internet. The internet we use today is hopelessly inefficient. The way it works was originally defined by DARPA - part of the US Department of Defense (they can't even spell). It used the best available technology at the time known as TCP/IP. But a British intern...

Brexit Scaremonger? Damn Right I Am.

I drafted this in March 2016, 3 months before the fateful referendum where 52% of people who voted (only 37% of the UK electorate) decided we would be better off leaving the EU.  I am posting this 3 days before the 2019 general election following 3 years of destructive turmoil. I hope the 37% think it's been worth it now that even worse is surely to follow. Lemmings are cute Scandinavian rodents who follow each other over cliffs. I am convinced this is what is happening to the UK. We're being brainwashed by either disingenuous or simply ignorant politicians, none of whom have ever sold anything in their tedious committee-ridden lives, to believe that we will be better off if we leave the EU. They're asking us to blindly follow them over a cliff. It's a bit like the mystery why a dangerous moron like Trump is building a following in the USA. Soundbites work. 'Make America Great Again!' What American wouldn't cheer for that?... until they think a litt...

Businesses Need Free Fast Advice

I have just come off the phone with a very helpful lady at the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB - staffed by volunteers - bless 'em all). As a business mentor I needed a quick piece of advice from Trading Standards (the government department responsible for making sure businesses in the UK trade within the law). The only phone number you can find on the web for advice is a call centre designed exclusively for consumers. The first two options on their IVR greeting is for utility supplies, the third and final option is 'anything else'. Naturally I got "All our operators are busy, but leave your name and number and we'll call you back...". So when she called me the next morning I briefly explained the issue my client is experiencing. She stopped me and said the CAB are only able to offer advice to consumers, not businesses. She then gave me a number for Surrey Trading Standards who apparently will give me an hours free consultation and then charge me £67 for subsequ...
